Arepas are a South American delicacy and are incredibly versatile. They are believed to have been invented by the indigenous residents of the Andes mountains in Venezuela and Colombia.
This unique recipe uses loads of cheese for the dough which makes them soft and tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside, just like the "areperas" that you can find in Venezuela.
Fill them with:
- Shredded beef with avocado Spread (guasacaca) or salsa verde
- Shredded chicken with avocado spread (guasacaca) or salsa verde
- "Domino" which is black beans and white cheese (could be Paisa White Cheese, Palmita Cheese, Llanero or many more)
- "La Pelua" which is shredded beef and yellow cheese (muenster cheese, gouda cheese, edam cheese or shredded cheddar).
- Our favorite one "Reina Pepeada" which is shredded chicken with avocado
Do you miss our typical areperas? You can have an arepa like those in the comfort of your home, no matter where you are you'll be transported.
